About us

Where in the World? is a small independent project based in Cork, Ireland. It answers one question: where was this photo taken?

What we do

You upload a photo, or a short video up to 8 seconds, and the site studies it the way a geography detective would: road markings, which side of the road cars drive on, signs and languages, number plates, building styles, plants and trees, the soil, the sky and the angle of the sun. It then pins its best guess on a 3D globe, shows the clues it used, and gives you buttons to open the spot in Google Maps and Street View so you can check it with your own eyes.

Why we built it

Photos travel around the internet with no context. People want to know where a holiday picture, an old family photo or a viral video was really taken, and working it out by hand can take hours. We wanted a tool that does the hard part in seconds and is honest about how sure it is.

How we use AI

The location trace is powered by an AI vision model. It is good, but it is not magic: results are estimates and can be wrong, which is why every trace shows a confidence level and several Street View spots to check. You can read the full method on How it works, and our guides explain the same tricks so you can find photo locations yourself.

Our rules

The site is for places, not people. It must never be used to find, follow or locate a private person or their home, and we suspend accounts that try. See our terms of use and privacy policy.
